OGUCHI Onyewu has set his sights on winning a permanent contract at Newcastle United and insists he wants to be part of something special at St.James' Park.
The Toon's new arrival spoke exclusively to Newcastle World after completing his loan move from Belgian outfit Standard Liege.
And Gooch was adamant that he is determined to prove his worth to supporters and staff alike after Glenn Roeder told the 24-year-old his future is in his own hands.
The United States international said: "It feels great to be here and I'm eager to step in and make an impact with the team.
"I am not here just for the short-term. I am definitely here for the long-term and to make something special happen.
"I know the club's great history and all about the great fans and, although they have not managed to win anything for a long time, I know they are eager to start winning titles and I want to be part of that."
And the 17-times capped centre-back has promised the Toon Army they will be not disappointed by his no-nonsense approach.
"I am a hard player, very hard. My work ethic is very high and I just want to contribute something positive to the team.
"There were other possibilities for me but it didn't take long to decide to join Newcastle because I realised this was the best career move for me.
"I think the Premiership will be quicker and more physical, but that will not be a problem for me."
